Primary Section (Grade 1 to 6)
At the British International School Primary Years Section, creativity and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. Our teachers design engaging projects and inquiry-based units that spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and help students discover their unique passions and talents.
Our approach integrates key concepts across different subject areas, ensuring learning is connected and meaningful. Lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of every learner, while cooperative learning and social-emotional development are woven into daily activities. This combination of inquiry, collaboration, and personal growth creates an inspiring environment where children develop confidence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

Mathematics at the Primary Section
At the British International School, our Mathematics curriculum is designed to build strong foundations, foster confidence, and develop critical thinking skills from the Early Years through Key Stage 2. Our aim is to ensure that every child is well-prepared for the next stage of their education while developing a love for problem-solving and logical reasoning.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, the focus is on building confidence with whole numbers, counting, and place value, using numerals, words, and the four operations through practical, hands-on resources. Children also develop an understanding of shapes, measurements, and simple problem-solving, while learning to read, spell, and use mathematical vocabulary correctly. By the end of this stage, pupils are fluent in number bonds to 20 and confident in using place value.
Key Stage 2
In Upper Key Stage 2, children extend their understanding of numbers and place value to larger integers and explore connections between multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratios. Problem-solving becomes more sophisticated, introducing algebra and deeper arithmetic strategies. Geometry and measurement lessons build on prior knowledge, teaching pupils to classify shapes, describe properties, and use mathematical language accurately. By the end of Year 6, pupils are fluent in written methods for all four operations and confident in working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
IT at the Primary Section
At the British International School, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral part of the curriculum and a vital skill for everyday life. Children use a range of tools—including computers, iPads and digital cameras—to acquire, organise, store, manipulate, interpret, communicate, and present information.
We are committed to providing pupils with hardware and software, alongside a structured and progressive approach to learning essential digital skills. This ensures that children not only become confident and competent users of technology but are also prepared to apply these skills effectively in their learning and future life.
Co-Curricular Activities
A rich and varied co-curricular programme is at the heart of the Primary Section, giving pupils the chance to explore their interests, discover new talents, and develop important life skills beyond the classroom. These activities complement academic learning and support intellectual, emotional, social, creative, and physical growth
